My Favorite Cities In The United States
Intro
As I get older, I start getting more & more invested in the idea of traveling more. Back when I first started rapping, I was able to perform out of state a lot thanks to a few different opportunities. That has sparked a separate passion for traveling that I’ve slowly been researching & learning more about. One of the biggest highlights from past travels was when I was an opening act on tour in Atlanta, GA for Eazy-E’s daughter Reemarkable, who just gave birth to her new child this month. There are only 3 cities listed below for today, but in general, I have loved every new place in the country I’ve visited so far in my 24 years. I’m happy that music gives me opportunities to travel, and I’m eagerly waiting to use my passport for some overseas excursions soon too.
New York City
To me, NYC is the best place in the entire world. I will admit my bias though, as I was born & partially raised in the Brooklyn borough of the giant city. What makes New York great is the accessibility to all locations without needing to drive anywhere. Truly the only city in the country with this much walkability & reliable public transportation. It’s hard to get bored in a city that never sleeps, and there’s always something open 24/7. If it wasn’t for the ridiculous cost of living, I’d love to sell my car & live life in the city. However, many people underestimate how much more jobs pay in NYC when discussing the high cost of living. I’d encourage anyone thinking about living in New York to instead move somewhere nearby or right outside of the city. That way you can enjoy job opportunities & higher pay, but not deal with the cost of living or busy city atmosphere.
Houston, TX
Houston was a pleasant surprise during my brief stint living in this southern city. It surpassed all expectations I had from what I researched before moving. In contrast to New York City, the cost of living is relatively cheap compared to other cities. That combined with the hot weather & many job opportunities make the city a great place for anyone between 18-25 to explore & start life. Traffic does suck, however, but at least most of the city residents are very kind-hearted overall. There are areas where you should be more cautious obviously, but you really do get a good feel of the Southern hospitality. And like NYC, Houston is a fun place that always has something to do or somewhere to be. I was lucky enough to work at the House Of Blues music venue during my time in Texas, and the first concert I worked was for Tinashe.
Chicago, IL
Chicago is the only city of these 3 that I haven’t spent time living or growing up in. In fact, I’ve only ever been to the windy city one time back in 2021 for a performance with a couple of local artists that June. I always tell people my favorite thing about Chicago is the beautiful & unique architecture. A lot of the buildings have an artsy antique look to them that immediately catches your eye when you enter the city. Additionally, I also thought a lot of the local citizens were very chill & welcoming, despite the negative reputation Chicago gets online. Yes, every city has dangers & you have to stay out of trouble no matter where you go. But even with that in mind, I still think in general that all of the locals & other performers I met that weekend made me feel comfortable & welcomed. There’s more I could say, but one of these days I need to take another visit & really experience of more of the Mid West.
